I usually pride myself on my ability to figure out how something was done at merely a glance, but I’ve gotta admit this has me pretty confused.
I don’t think it’s a rigged CG model with animation taken from motion capture, + cloth and hair simulation, it looks too photographic for that, not to mention the guy is just cruising around the model without it needing to render.
So what it must be instead, especially considering just how often Perfume have been the playthings of Daito Manabe (Perfume no Okite, the JPN Special, Spring of Life, the Perfume Global website… and more? This too?), this must be like… point cloud data taken from a massive array of Xbox Kinects - or something that works in a similar way. Except the coverage and the resolution is crazy. Collating that much data must be crashtacular. And how does such a thing handle hair, and all the motion blur as they’re dancing? Not to mention light speculars and reflections - I guess they must have to be as matte as possible.
I don’t know, maybe I’m being an idiot.
